Audio processing is done locally in your browser. No audio data is sent to our servers during the recording or sound bank playback process, except for the initial loading of the application files.

Settings (volumes, device selections, Bank A sound names/files) are stored locally in your browser's Local/IndexedDB Storage. Clearing your browser data may remove these settings. Bank A sounds are limited to 1MB each. Bank B sounds and actual audio files are NOT stored and must be re-selected each session.

Live monitoring routes microphone audio to your speakers/headphones; using headphones is strongly recommended to prevent audio feedback.

MP3 export uses client-side encoding (lamejs) which may be slow for long recordings and requires the library to be included correctly.

Help & Keyboard Shortcuts

General

• Initialize Audio Devices: Click this button first to enable microphone and output selection.
• Microphone / Output Select: Choose your desired audio input and output devices.
• Monitor Mic: Hear your microphone input through your output device in real time. Use headphones to avoid feedback.
• Auto-Duck Music: When enabled, the sound bank volume automatically lowers while you speak and fades back up when you stop. Only active during recording or level testing. Enable Monitor Mic to hear the effect live.

Recording

• Start/Stop Recording: Toggles recording on and off. A confirmation is shown before stopping to prevent accidental cuts.
• Pause/Resume: Pauses or resumes an active recording without ending it.
• Mute Mic: Instantly silences the microphone without stopping the recording. Button is red when the mic is live and green when muted.
• Test Levels: Adjust Mic, Sound FX, and Master volumes without recording. Click "Set" to save preferred levels; "Re-Load" restores them.
• Filename: Double-click the prefix to edit it. Enter a suffix to identify the recording (e.g., episode number).
• Page Leave Warning: If you navigate away or close the tab while recording, the browser will ask for confirmation.

Sound Banks

• Bank A (A–H): Sound effects. Files are saved in your browser's local database and reload automatically next session.
• Bank B (1–8): Music tracks. Session only — files must be re-selected each time.
• Load Sound (Folder Icon): Click to load an audio file into a slot.
• Sound Name: Click the name to edit it.
• Play/Stop Buttons: Control playback of individual slots.
• Cross Fade Effects / Cross Fade Music: When enabled, playing a new sound fades out the currently playing sound in that bank.
• Chain (Bank B): Check the chain box on a slot to auto-advance to the next loaded slot when the current track ends.
• Chain Cross Fade Before End: How many seconds before a track ends to begin the crossfade into the next chained track.

Output

• Preview: After recording, a waveform appears. Use the Play/Stop controls and volume slider to review before saving.
• Save .weba: Download the raw recording in WebA format (audio-only WebM container).
• Save .mp3: Encode and download the recording as an MP3. Encoding is done locally and may take a moment for long recordings.
• Load .weba/.webm: Load a previously saved recording to convert it to MP3 without re-recording.
• MP3 Bitrate: Choose the quality of the MP3 export (96–320 kbps). 192 kbps is a good default for podcasts.

Settings

• Export/Import Settings: Save or load all application settings (volumes, device preferences, filenames, Bank A sound names, cross-fade and ducking options) to/from a JSON file.
• All settings persist automatically across page reloads via your browser's local storage.

Keyboard Shortcuts

• Spacebar: Start/Stop Recording.
• M: Toggle Mute Mic.
• A–H: Play/Stop the corresponding Bank A sound effect slot.
• 1–8: Play/Stop the corresponding Bank B music slot.
• ?: Open/Close this Help modal.
• Escape: Close the active modal.
